The Library Experience

You may only remember a library from your time in school. Who doesn’t remember being in your schools library?

I think for most young children it is a magical experience that is greatly anticipated. Is it time to go to the library yet?

Going to the library was an event. It was an out of the norm anticipated spot of pleasure. But as we grew in school, those trips may have become less and less enjoyed.

For some I would think, the pleasure subsided as the demands to read increased. Term papers, long reading assignments, and other things can diminish the pleasure of reading.

Often we start out equal in reading ability with our classmates, but as we grow our reading skills may not advance. It may become increasingly difficult for some student to read and comprehend, therefore reducing its pleasure.

If you were once someone who retained their love of reading, you probably visited a library once you left school. I went to college and spent long hours there studying.

When my children were small we would go to our local library and let time slip away. For me it wasn’t just about picking out a book to read. It was about the experience of being in a library.

I’m not sure it is easily defined. What exactly is it about a library that emits that type of feeling once inside? I can’t put my finger on it, but it is one that I never want to take for granted.

How long has it been since you’ve been to a library? Let me challenge you to give it a try! You may be pleasantly surprised, and remember that feeling of, Is it time to go to the library yet?
