If you have been around the writing world for longer than a day, you have probably heard the word genre. But do you really know what it means?

Webster’s Dictionary describes it this way: a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content

Novel’s have many genres. They can be murder mysteries, romance, historical fiction, and many more. There are also genres in non-fiction.

It seems many people have a favorite genre that they are consistently drawn back to each time they select a book. But then there are those that love to read almost anything!

I find it fascinating to venture out from my normal mystery genre to explore poetry, historical fiction, and an occasional romance.
